    Description

    WWI letter lot - 15 letters and other items belonging to Thomas Henderson Motor Supply Train 423, Co. 512 while stationed in France and on his return before being discharged. The letters show a variety of signs of age, tears, rips, fold, creates, stains etc. - see photos.
    Letters sent to and from his wife Verna in Patton, California, Vernas letters have been forwarded home from France as Thomas must have been on his way home. One letter is to Thomas from his aunt. Two of the letters are W.U. Telegram letters.
    Some letters are written on American Red Cross and YMCA paper, not all letters have envelopes. Envelopes have censor stamp and signature. State side letters are from Camp Kearny and New York. Letters are full of daily news, Tom being transferred to the Converlesent camp, family news, sickness, starting for the states, travel plans, leaving for the states.
    Also included is 2 newspaper clippings, letter from the Red Cross to Verna asking for affidavits for discharge, an I am stationed at Brest postcard, stamped meal ticket card for USS Plattsburgh, Mother’s Day service card and insurance premium receipt dated 1929.

    Letter comes with transcription and copies of documents relating to Thomas and Verna found during research. Records show that Thomas and Verna were lighthouse keepers after the war, notably point Pinos Lighthouse California.
