Rarely offered original, double-weight 11” x 13 ¾” cast photo from the Florenz Ziegfeld 1928 stage production of “The Three Musketeers” (Lyric Theatre, March 13, 1928 to December 15, 1928 for 318 performances) based on the story by Alexandre Dumas. Most notable players with film careers (all in the photo) include:
Reginald Owen
(as Cardinal Richelieu) whose film career spanned 5 decades appearing in 7 Best Picture Oscar nominees: “The House of Rothschild”, “A Tale of Two Cities”, “The Great Ziegfeld”, “Mrs. Miniver”, “Random Harvest”, “National Velvet” and “Mary Poppins” as well as Scrooge in the 1938 “A Christmas Carol” version;
Lester Allen
(as Planchet);
Vivienne Segal
(as Constance Bonacieux);
Dennis King
(as D’Artagnan);
Clarence Derwent
(as Louis XIII);
Detmar Poppen
(as Porthos);
Douglas Dumbrille
(as Athos); and
Louis Hector
(as Comte De La Rochefort). Handwritten identification of players (from left to right) on the reverse side (see scan). Photo in good condition with about 1 ¼” tear on the top border, creasing in the lower right corner and several additional creases on the bottom area, chip from the bottom right corner tip and corner creasing on upper right and lower left.
