Conferred in three grades (gold, silver and bronze) to a policeman or policewoman, initially in recognition of his/her merit in service or in recognition of securing public order. Since the institution of the Medal form Merit to the Police in 2001, it has been conferred for long, exemplary service in the Police. The decoration replaced the Decoration for Merit in Protection of Public Order, conferred in People's Poland.
