Antique Victorian Sewing Bird Brass Clamp With PincushionThis is a unique ornate gilded brass figural clamp styled as a bird, for help with sewing projects, a third hand tool.
The stem is cast with flowers and foliage. The bird is ornately embossed. The tail is pressed down to allow the beak to open, (the "Third Hand") where the fabric is inserted and acts like a fabric holder, the spring hinge is in steel.
Clamps tightly to a work table by tightening the screw.
Detailed metalwork to the bracket and nice metal stamping to the birds wings and birds underside.
Designed and popular in the mid 1800's.
These sewing birds are collectible antiques, although they are still functionable.
They act as a third hand when you are hand sewing, quilting, embroidery, mending, doing cross stitch etc.
Turn key screw bracket is in working order and turns easily. The bird clamps tightly. The gild gives a pleasant and attractive appearance to this sewing tool.

Condition:
The small pin cushion on the top is lacking,
and bottom pin cushion has wear and fading and small holes from pin insertions over the decades of use, as seen in photo. Overall in very good condition for its age, with no repairs, no rust, and everything working.
