    Description

Antique Sterling Silver Chatelaine Pin Cushion w/ Owl
    English * Hallmarked 1893
This unusual piece is not one I've seen before. The sides are solid sterling silver and it's a disc style pin cushion. Both sides are textured with a hammered effect with center design panels. One side shows an owl on a crescent moon with a star to the side. The other side has a Chinese design with an old man and two children. Both sides have the English sterling hallmarks for Birmingham 1893. There is a ring at the top so it could be attached to a chatelaine.
Pins were stuck in the velvet "sandwich" cushion around the center and it has some old pins. The designs are rubbed but the condition of the silver is excellent with no dents or loss. The velvet cushion is intact and still has most of its nap. It measures 1 1/2" in diameter and was bought in England.
