Description
Six vintage silverplate seafood forks advertising theSeafood Grotto Restaurant in Detroit, Michigan.
The forks were made by the R. Wallace Silver Plate Co. in the
Alamo
pattern for the restaurant. Each handle is engraved with
SEAFOOD GROTTO
. The restaurant was originally located in the Griswold Hotel, downtown Detroit, then moved to the 7 Mile and Telegraph Rd. location in the 1940's. The set comes with an original new old stock advertising postcard from the restaurant's 7 Mile Rd location.
The forks measure 6" long. The Alamo pattern was introduced in 1913, so these forks could have been used at either location.
They are in excellent vintage condition. Still quite glossy. Expect some stubborn tarnish and scratches from normal use and handling. One fork has some scratches on the tines, see closeup.) No plate loss that I can see. They have been hand washed and gently hand polished just enough to assess condition.
